Double Bass Workshop

Carved, roundback bass with back and sides made from willow.  Wide bouts and deep ribs with a 41.5" string length.  Golden brown oil varnish.  Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin and Bel Canto strings.  Comfortable neck with a nice "D" shaped  profile. 

This is an interesting design:  Carved spruce top, solid willow ribs and a flat laminated back. This bass has broad upper bouts and deep ribs - 9 inches at the lower bouts.  41.5" string length.  Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin and Pirastro Obligato strings.  Slightly brighter than the Shen Willow 3/4 with plenty of bass response.

Here's the first of several new Shen basses we got in recently.  Gamba corners, carved spruce top with back and sides made from willow.  41 1/4 string  length, red brown oil varnish, X braced flat back with a slight convex shape to resist deformation, Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin, rosewood tailpiece, Pirastro Obligato strings. Opening up nicely with good bass response in an instrument this size.

We have a spirit varnished "Panormo" model laminated bass in like new condition.  Impressive pizzicato sound. The neck has been trimmed to a reasonable width.

New Romanian bass made by the Calin Wulter Workshop.  Round back, 41.75" string length.  Nicely shaped neck.  The wood was well chosen:  medium wide grain, two piece top and the quartersawn maple back has interesting bees wing figure - looks like Bubinga!.  C extension installed  by our shop.
